'Bruce Almighty' Sequel In the Works, Jim Carrey Could Return as God Wannabe
Jim Carrey might return as the human with God-like power as a sequel to "Bruce Almighty" is currently in the works.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures is planning to create the follow-up to the 2003 hit movie as a starring vehicle for its original lead actor Carrey. The studio is currently in negotiation with screenwriter duo Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel to pen the script for the sequel project. It is still unclear whether or not director Tom Shadyac will return to tackle the helming duty for the Bruce Almighty sequel. The 2003 "Bruce Almighty" sees Carrey playing the titular character, a TV reporter who is given a chance to have God's power for a week after complaining to God that his rival Evan gets a promotion as an anchor. According to AceShowbiz, the first movie successfully raked in almost $500 million worldwide. "Bruce Almighty" is not the only Jim Carrey's hit movie which is set to get a sequel. Filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been planning to direct a follow-up to 1994's "Dumb and Dumber" with Carrey and Jeff Daniels being eyed to reprise their roles. (AceShowbiz)
