The ministry of women, children and youth is organizing the two months voluntary service. The ministry of Women, Children and Youth has been organizing the annual volunteer service program by young people for the last 10 years.  This year, the ministry plans to attract more than 7 million youth in the national program. Briefing journalist on the program, the state minister Almaw Mengist, said young people have national responsibilities to serve their community with the knowledge and skills they have. The objective of encouraging young people to volunteer, according to the state minister, helps both the community and the volunteers.

The areas of the volunteer work by the young people this year include education, health protecting environment, community development and building of youth center. Last year alone, the volunteer’s contribution was estimated to be close to half a billion birr. The volunteers include university and high school students and working professionals who would spare time to participate in the activities. Better performing volunteers will be recognized at the end of the program sometime in early September. (AFRO FM)
